August 17, 2015

ARCTANGENT

When you hear the name ArcTanGent, you don’t need an introduction.  If you’re crazy for math-rock, post-rock, noise, experimental music and basically anything slightly out of the ordinary- then this respected festival is for you.

If you speak to any touring band, any established label, any music loving individual at any live show, you are guaranteed to talk about and asked if you’re attending this year’s ArcTanGent. The smaller sister festival of the equally renowned 2000 trees, and remarkably only in it’s third year, ArcTanGent festival lives up to it’s own legacy. It’s not just a weekend of incredible music they provide but they’ve curated their own solid music community, their own festival hub. The perfect combination of the best music and the best like- minded attendees.

The monumental line up features the likes of  Cult of Luna, Mylets, LITE, CHON, pg.lost, ToundraDillinger Escape Plan, Deafheaven ,The Fall of Troy, 65daysofstatic, OHHMS, Alright The Captain, Cleft, Talons,  Polymath, Deerhoof, Blanck Mass, Helms Alee, Mutiny On The Bounty, Delta Sleep, Axes, The Fierce & the Dead, Quadrupede,  Emma Ruth Rundle, Lambhorn, Juffage, Bodyhound and many many more.

In our next line up special, we had the pleasure in speaking to those insane instrumentalists Talons. The 6 piece influential band  are a must see at this years festival, they will simply blow you away with their mesmerising performance. Consisting of Oliver Steels, Reuben Brunt, Sam Jarvis, Sam Little, Alex Macdougall and Chris Hicks together they create something of their own. Fusing post- rock, post-math and classical elements within their orchestrations, Talons will captivate you. We are particularly excited to hear their tracks taken from their recent sophomore album.

You’re playing this years ArcTanGent- How excited are you?

Very excited, particularly for our silent disco set on Saturday night which is gonna be absolutely slamming. We’re probably putting more preparation into that than our actual set.

What stage are you playing and what can we look forward to from your live set?

We are playing the Arc stage on Saturday at 2.30. The set will be pretty varied, there’s some stuff from all three of our releases to date. We’re also going to play a song off the latest album which we haven’t played live before. We’ve had a lot of fun trying out new ideas in rehearsals, we’re now at a point where we’re really satisfied with the flow of the set. Recently we’ve been having a lot of fun playing live, probably just because we don’t tour nearly as much these days.

Which acts are you desperate to see perform and why?

Deafheaven are the obvious one, hoping they play some stuff off the upcoming album. It’s really cool that so many Sargent House bands are coming over, there’s been a lot of great stuff coming from them in the past couple of years.

Why is ArcTanGent special to you?

We played the first one on the Yohkai stage on the Thursday night, and there was an amazing atmosphere. Therefore, it’s really nice to have been asked to come back and play on the main stage. What is also great is that the festival is put on by a great bunch of people who are passionate about this kind of music. It’s not often you see a festival that covers such a niche type of music that is also so well organised.

Give us some festival advice-what do we need to bring with us for this weekend? Do we need to prepare ourselves!

The Talons ArcTanGent 2015 inventory will include the following:

– A big jacket with lots of pockets.

– A good mix of alcohol. This year we’re going for Fireball Whisky, Butty Bach, Guinness, a Box of Wine and some Rum. No Stella this time. (Don’t forget to decant your alcohol into plastic bottles kids)

– Don’t bother bringing food as Alex our drummer will probably buy unnecessary amounts of crap for the weekend, so you can just rinse off him.

– 200 Extra Large Party Cannons, 125 Party Poppers, One Giant Champagne Popper and Silly String.

– Sunglasses.

– Reuben’s violin.

Editors Note: We’ve caught some Talons’ DJ sets in the past, to those that get to enjoy their silent disco, you are in for a treat. Thank you Chris on behalf of Talons and all in the band have a great time!

We’ve got a handful of artist interviews to follow in the final few days. Until then what are you waiting for, get that tent by the door ready for your weekend escape, get everything packed and put on a special tangent playlist and get ready to enjoy this years arc!
