CHELSEA WOLFE STREAMS NEW SONG, ‘AFTER THE FALL’;
ABYSS OUT AUGUST 7TH ON SARGENT HOUSE
  In anticipation of next month’s release of AbyssChelsea Wolfe is now streaming ‘After the Fall’ a dystopian love song that also attempts to capture the frustration of being stuck inside a dream, unable to wake up.

Wolfe’s fifth album, Abyss expands on her previous work’s entanglement with tension and the intersection of the conscious and unconscious. Out August 7th on Sargent House, newest track ‘After the Fall’ shows a softer but no less intense side of the album following the powerful forces of ‘Iron Moon‘ and ‘Carrion Flowers‘. Abyss deliberately confronts the boundaries between dreams and reality, exploring the influence of sleep paralysis and society’s failures, disorders and scars. Aspects of Carl Jung’s Memories, Dreams, Reflections led Wolfe to declare the album’s goal was to drop “into the abyss of one’s own mind, allowing yourself to feel things you’ve hidden away, bringing them front and center”.

  Abyss arrives August 7th via Sargent House with pre-order links on iTunes and via the label, and fans can read the full statement behind the album here.

  Chelsea Wolfe is about a step away from becoming the biggest singer/songwriter of our generation. Her music embodies some warp between Leonard Cohen and Fiona Apple. In her new single for “After The Fall,” we see both the delicate and world burning sides of Wolfe. The music itself feels otherworldly in its production, going to lengths to make everything nearly blissful. When the chorus kicks in, everything goes crashing into the earth at a million miles an hour, the distortion of the synth becoming more and more massive with each second. The electronic crunch is the kind of noise you’d probably hear at the last concert before the apocalypse. Her voice effortlessly goes back and forth between these two modes, reminding us why she’s the best.– NOISEY
Most intense and dynamic – ROLLING STONE
“As dark and bottomless as a river at night . . . beautiful and terrifying”. NPR
“Wolfe sounds like a true goddess of the afterlife”  – CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND
“The alt-princess of darkness” – V MAGAZINE
“As perfect and amazing as anything she’s done”  – DEATH AND TAXES
 “One of the underground’s most innovative artists, and a singer who stakes out her territory in fertile realms just on the other side of the mirror. This is every kind of heavy you’ve never thought of.” – METAL HAMMER
