Vomitface are excited to share the “Luckiest Man Alive” music video and an interview viaVICE. The song comes from the band’s recently released Another Bad Year, out now viaBoxing Clever Records. “Luckiest Man Alive” is a quick and noisy blast of grunge influenced punk. The chaotic and claustrophobic video was directed by Alex Smith. The Jersey City / Brooklyn trio talked with Vice about the indie scene in New York and the East Coast, over-priviledged bands, and journalism flaws while sharing the video. VICE praised Vomitface, saying, “There are too many bands in the world, most of them terrible, but all the shit makes the rare great band even more exceptional—Vomitface is one of those gems.”

Speaking about the video, Vomitface’s Jared Micah said, “Alex, the director, approached us after a show saying that he wanted to do a video with this specific concept. We were in the midst of writing the new EP, and so we kind of recorded the track with his concept in mind. The video is more of a collaborative piece rather than a promotional companion to the song.

When filming began, all we knew is that we would be in this terrifying space, running from Alex, who would be chasing us with a camera—and, we would soon learn, maniacally screaming at us for motivation. We still can’t decide if it was more frightening or disgusting down there. After a long night of shooting/running, we were all exhausted, and it was so dusty we were blowing gray crap out of our noses for days.”

Vomitface’s Another Bad Year was released today on CD and digital via the band’s new label home Boxing Clever Records with the vinyl set to arrive in late June. The band celebrated their album release with a full stream of the record on StereogumAnother Bad Year is a leap forward for Vomitface, expanding on their debut by moving into new directions of twisted surf punk, violent hardcore outbursts, and sardonic dance punk. At their core, Vomitface are a punk band making devious pop songs. The trio’s undeniable hooks are impossible to escape and resistance is futile. As the band experiment with new sounds, sonic textures, and clamoring blasts of carefully chaotic noise, their songwriting remains the band’s impeccable strength. The perfect storm of noise and experimentation has created a welcomed sense of change but it’s the underlying melodies that shimmer even during the band’s harshest moments.

Stereogum noted the band’s shift in direction, “While they’ve preserved their head-bludgeoning guitar riffs and sardonic lyricism, these five new songs are tighter and more complicated. The songs are more melodic, and frontman Jared Micah’s lyrics are sharper and slyer than before.”
