With 2 weeks until the release of their hotly tipped debut album ‘Before The World Was Big’ (June 1st, Wichita Recordings), GIRLPOOL have added more UK live dates & shared a new video for the record’s title track.
The duo’s previously announced album release show at Dalston Roof Park is now sold out & will be accompanied by an appearance at Rough Trade East followed by a Waxahatchee support slot at Electric Ballroom on June 10th. They have also added a Scala headline show to their September European run. Full dates below.
Speaking of the new video for the album’s title track, director Allyssa Yohana said:
“I wanted to put Cleo and Harmony in a space of complete childhood wonderment—Coney Island—and let their pure love shine through. There are few things as special as love for your best pal, and it was an honor to document their universe, and to invite others into that universe, too.”
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Girlpool is a Philadelphia based two piece made up of Cleo Tucker (Guitar) and Harmony Tividad (Bass). The two met at Los Angeles DIY venue the Smell and quickly grew very close. Their sound is raw, comprised only of a guitar, bass and vocal harmonies. Cleo and Harmony use this stripped-down instrumentation to accentuate their vulnerable and powerful lyrics.
After releasing their self-titled EP, Girlpool relocated to Philadelphia at the end of 2014 looking for change of pace and scenery. There they recorded their debut LP, Before The World Was Big, with Kyle Gilbride (of Swearin’). Before The World Was Big explores the concepts of growth, friendship, and the interaction between identity and environment. The introspective-punk duo captures growing pains and existential quandaries with a honest and true intention.
