“A slow-burning paean of desert-twanged psychedelia“- The Line of Best Fit
LA trio White Arrows have announced that their new album ‘In Bardo’ will be released in the UK via Votiv on April 27th and have posted an extra track from it this week called ‘Creep on Dreaming‘.
This epic seven and a half minute psychedelic jam sees White Arrows’ journey into the unknown from the final recording sessions of the album, as explained by frontman Mickey Church:
“It was the end of the album recording time and the first time we ever decided to just jam and record something live as a full band. It’s fucked up, but that’s what I kinda like about it. Free flowing and screaming is the way to finish an album. Catharsis.”
New album ‘In Bardo’ is a collection that sees the band transcending their previous futurist funk, psychedelic rock, 80-flecked synth pop, indie electronica, and tropical pop influences to create an experience. It recalls the best of late 70s/early 80s music when pop embraced technology and contorted it into new forms. Only this time around it is music being made by kids of the information and digital age. Here anything goes.
Working with a producer for the first time allowed White Arrows to better interpret and articulate the ideas rattling around Mickey Church’s imagination. Clearly there is something magical happening on In Bardo. Something meditative, ritualistic and uplifting. Darker and heavier but freeing too, as all good music should be. It’s a dance project that offers more than just beats and bleeps, rock music so far removed from standard guitar-based traditions. This is electronic pop music for head, heart, and dancefloor.
