MIKE SKINNER, WILKINSON AND CRAIG CHARLES AMONG TOP GUESTS AS THE VENUE OPENS ITS DOORS IN HEREFORD

Ivor Novello, Brit Award Winner and the man behind musical phenomenon The Streets, Mike Skinner, headlined the opening night at new Hereford club The Venue, on Friday 27th March. Skinner’s innovative style saw The Streets’ debut album, Original Pirate Material, named as Album of The Decade by The Guardian. Although he has since retired The Streets’ moniker, Skinner’s eclectic and genre-busting style has made him a huge name in the DJ circuit, and he’s built up a massive online fan base for his Skinimix podcasts. He is the first and one of many big name acts to perform at The Venue in coming weeks.

The Venue – which was formerly occupied by The Jailhouse on Gaol Street – will also welcome Urban godfather Tim Westwood (Thursday 2nd April) to launch the Thursday R&B nights, UK Hip Hop stars Four Owls (Friday 3rd April), Drum & Bass DJ, Producer and Top 10 artist Wilkinson (Friday 10th April) and Funk & Soul DJ and TV star Craig Charles (Friday 24th April). Local talent will also be showcased, with a 16+ live music event from Hereford College of Arts Music students (Wednesday 8th April) and a Hereford Live 18+ Showcase (Friday 17th April). On Friday May 22nd the UKs Number 1 Ska tribute bad 2Rude will be returning to Hereford.

Now officially opened to the public, The Venue has welcomed a surprise for visitors’ as promised by owner Steve Harrison. “We have heavily invested in a total refurbishment of the building; it has had a huge makeover. The Venue will continue the long history of bringing the best acts to Herefordshire that dates back to the Hillside Ballroom and through the 90s at the Crystal Rooms, and more recently The Jailhouse. But we also aim to offer something new. We’ve listened to feedback locally and really do aim to offer something for everyone at our events during the weeks and weekends, and we’re very excited to open our doors to the public.” Saturday nights at The Venue will be the ideal location to enjoy a night out with friends or a partner, in an exciting, new and safe environment. Saturdays will be aimed at patrons aged 21 and over. Thursday and Friday nights will be 18+, and The Venue is also available to hire for corporate or private events.
