The Fleas share complimentary new download ‘Free’,

from their upcoming EP ‘Telling Tales’

Pop soaked indie-folk ensemble THE FLEAS, recently featured on BBC Radio 2 and Absolute Radio, have unveiled their effervescent new track ‘Free’, the second song to be taken from the ‘Telling Tales’ EP, which will be released on 27 April.

“Wonderful” Dermot O’Leary, BBC Radio 2

“Our pick of the week by a country mile. Gets a big thumbs up from me and from the listeners too”
Sarah Champion, Absolute Radio

“You’re going to love The Fleas forever” Ed Pickett, Kick 106FM

About ‘Free’

Inspired by the band’s love of upbeat 80s indie, ‘Free’ is a brisk and baggy rhythmic beauty that calls to mind The Stone Roses’ ‘Elephant Stone’ cross-pollinated with The Cure’s ‘In Between Days’ and sprinkled with just a little samba. Yet its sense of infectious melody, euphonic instrumentation and sumptuous vocal harmonies makes it only truly classifiable as timeless pop. A song about avoiding the perils and pitfalls of getting into the red, ‘Free’ – from its opening acoustic jangle through to its agile percussive breakdown – offers the listener a no-cost, serotonin-spiking audio rush.

About The Fleas

The Fleas are a Reading-based five-piece who meld vintage influences and fresh grooves, landing somewhere between The Kinks and the Pixies. Their heady brew of expansive indie pop and funky folk-rock is elevated by an ear for inspirational melody, resulting in an irresistible, feel-good sound incorporating elements of The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Elvis Costello and Kirsty MacColl. Vocalist Piers peppers his lyrics with worldly wisdom, his voice embellished by gorgeous three-part harmonies from percussionist Bernadette and drummer Mannie, who, with Woody on double-bass and Chris on guitar, form an Anglo-Argentine backbone that infuses the band’s indie instincts with touches of Latin and jazz. The Fleas’ set at Manchester’s In The City was one of a hatful of sought-after festival slots, and the band have been aired on BBC 6 Music and Absolute Radio, not forgetting their masterful acoustic session on Dermot O’Leary’s Radio 2 show earlier this year, delivered while Bernadette was seven months pregnant. A forceful live proposition to boot, The Fleas are one bug you’d do well to catch in 2015.
