PALE ANGELS- Imaginary People

Out 6th April 2015 on Specialist Subject / Recess Records

Pale Angels may well have lost and found their minds making their latest record. Following 2013’s explosive debut Primal Play, Imaginary People is the second LP from the transatlantic, Welsh-American band, pieced together in two weeks between tours last year.

The process of making the LP was a release – after months of burning out on tours and what the band saw as ‘weird postur-ing’ going on in music – but in their haste to cleanse themselves and just create for creativity’s sake, they entered a kind of out-er-body state. “When I think back to us writing the songs, I can’t really remember it very well and I don’t feel like it was actually us writing them,” says Jamie. “That’s one of the reasons we called the album Imaginary People. We had turned into a weird machine.”

The resulting LP is ten songs of loud, pounding catharsis that take their influences – Ramones, Pixies, Gun Club, Husker Du etc. – and smash them into tiny unrecognisable pieces. It’s an album that feels possessed – from the creepy lethargy of ‘Lapin, Lapin’ to the dance-inducing ‘Wild Vile Flesh’ and devastating ‘Sinking Shadows’.

Mike, Jamie and Reza wrote the majority of the music together at a warehouse in Swansea, Wales. Ideas were polished in a New Jersey basement with Chris, before recording under the watchful eye of The Men’s, Ben Greenberg over 2 days at Vaca-tion Island Studios, Brooklyn.
