– APRIL UK TOUR

Calexico recently announced their forthcoming album, ‘Edge of the Sun’, out April 13th on City Slang, and have a new song to share with you today:  ‘Falling From The Sky’ featuring Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell. The new single will be available as of tomorrow digitally.

It was written when landing in New Zealand, having read the children’s book “The House in the Night” which has a similar phrasing as the chorus in this song.” explains Calexico’s Joey Burns“The song could be about not knowing where life is heading sometimes – there is nostalgia and an attempt to convey the importance of mystery and magic in our lives. Our instincts tell us to take giant leaps, whilst our minds remind us to be more cautious. When we find ourselves truly alone or facing our biggest challenges, it is then that we are most in tune with our true selves and the world around us, or in this case amongst the universe and stars above.”

For the better part of two decades, the acclaimed band Calexico has crossed musical barriers, embracing a multitude of styles, variety in instrumentation, and well-cultivated signature sounds. Their new album, Edge of the Sun, takes inspiration from a trip to a place surprisingly unexplored by the band before in Mexico City, and with the benefit of many friends and comrades to help guide the way.

Collaborators on the album include Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses), Nick Urata (Devotchka), Carla Morrison, Gaby Moreno, Amparo Sanchez, multi-instrumentalists from the Greek band Takim, and Neko Case. Burns’ brother John Burns lent a hand to some lyrics and songwriting, and the band’s keyboardist, Sergio Mendoza, stepped up to co-write and arrange certain songs, ultimately co-producing the album along with Burns, John Convertino, and longtime associate Craig Schumacher.
