Following the release of ‘We Were Kings’ last summer, SUNS return with new single ‘Temple Boy’, out on 23rd February via their own label, Taiyō Records.
The duo – Andy McDonnell and Michael Tyrrell – were united through their deep love of pop music, which resonates in ‘Temple Boy’. Its bounding rhythm aligns with pulsing production and Tyrrell’s soulful vocal, giving it infectious pop textures. Mastered by Mandy Parnell (Bjork, Aphex Twin), the track’s inspiration hails from Berlin and fits its defiant spirit, as Tyrrell explains:
“Temple Boy is about worshiping at your own alter. The inspiration for the song came after meeting a very successful human rights lawyer on the dancefloor of Berlin’s Panorama Bar. He was a brilliant prism of contradictions in a place where reality is left behind along with phones, cameras and a world that sleeps, and for a moment I was in love. So the song is a prayer to you/myself that invokes the strength to have it all: to manifest a personal existence that is all at once disciplined, successful and ferociously hedonistic.”
SUNS bring their live show to London’s Sebright Arms on 24th February, tickets available here.
Both producers in their own right, McDonnell and Tyrell have previously worked with the likes of Mount Kimbie, Crystal Fighters, Cocknbullkid and Scott Walker. They released their debut EP ‘WeAreSuns’ in 2013.
