London experimental trio Troyka unveil new Survival Skills rework
When approaching the music of Troyka, cast aside any preconceptions of what a Hammond-organ trio should be. The trio’s new album ‘Ornithophobia’ (so-called after the guitarist Chris Montague’s fear of birds!) is now widely critically acclaimed in the UK after hitting stores in January. Drowned In Sound called the LP “a glitchy, frenetic trip through krautrock, electro and jazz” while the Times evoked “the spirit of Gentle Giant [and] shades of Aphex Twin and Flying Lotus”.
With ‘Troyka Smash’, the band continue to defy categorisation with this beautifully angular opus of dreamy glitch, courtesy of Survival Skills, the box fresh alter-ego of Chris Sharkey, guitarist and composer in cult leftfield bands such as seminal post-jazzers Acoustic Ladyland, trioVD and latest project Shiver
Troyka are currently touring the United Kingdom and Europe, with album launch party at Rich Mix on Thursday 12th Feb. Full tour details here.
