“The Harsh Winds of Rathlin” is the second single to be taken from Axis Of’s new album, The Mid Brae Inn.

The track is a weather-beaten journey through the Axis Of environment – distorted bass butts its head against singalong vocal breaks, audience handclaps and mathematically-charged guitar riffs. The lyrics are equally memorable and evocative, this is a band that specialises in painting a vivid picture for each track they work on, “One wet Sunday, I dandered down to a place within the rocks. Found some drift wood and with a knife I glorified the lot. Wrote a thousand names in there a thousand more to go.”

The clip which accompanies the single was produced by Misfits for Media and was filmed at a sentimental location for Axis Of, the Attic Bar of Ma Kellys in Ballymoney. For a long time the bar was a setting for some of the bands most chaotic shows.

Team Rock premiered the video today.

The Northern Irish trio, Axis Of have been winning hearts throughout Europe since the release of their debut album, Finding St. Kilda in 2012. Their records espouse their deep love of music, meeting new people and travel: “The touring we do completely shapes our music and lyrics,” explains Ewen Friers (lead singer and bassist). And on their latest offering, The Mid Brae Inn this is taken to fascinating new emotional heights.

The sound that the bass-player-fronted three-piece has crafted is simultaneously melodic and thunderous – drawing comparison to the sound Biffy cultivated on their crossover Only Revolutions. “Over the last few years we’ve really pushed that idea of ‘poppy but heavy’. I think this record takes that idea and stretches it further at both ends” explains Niall. “I feel we’re now the band we were hinting at becoming, it just required a few hundred shows to get us to this point.

Axis of have unveiled their first single ‘Wetsuit’ at the end of last year on Kerrang!
