As the countdown to the end of 2014 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be featuring the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
In our end of year special we let our favorites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favorite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
The next take over comes from a band who will soon see themselves in our end of year list, a two piece who have yet again had a rewarding year, we let New Jersey based Dads tell us their top releases of 2014. The duo consist of John Bradley – Drums/Vocals and Scotty Scharinger – Guitar/Vocals. The emo punk band from NJ are regulars of Circuit Sweet and will continue to be plugged for some time. In October of this year, the band celebrated the release of their impressive sophomore full length I’ll Be The Tornado, which is out now on 6131 records and a monumental milestone for the pair. Together they create the sound of an act twice their size and their passion is simply unstoppable- this along with their touring professionalism is easily a standout attribute for these musicians. We hand over to John for his rad releases.
Top 5 releases of the year in no particular order:
Pianos Become The Teeth – Keep You
Love the mood of this record and how well it flows with passion and cleanliness.
Future Islands – Singles
A great “pop” record with deep texture and melodies that’ll get stuck in your head forever.
Saintseneca – Dark Arc
Listening to this with headphones on and fully engulfing yourself in every breath and the aura of the songs puts you at a calming peace like few other albums can do.
Lights – Little Machines
Another great pop record with memorable synth melodies and fun song structures that keep you dancing.
Jenny Lewis – The Voyager
All hail the amazing Jenny Lewis that never stops creating perfect songs.
The best show you have played this year
This is a tough one, an easy answer would be a Riot Fest set because of how unreal it is to play an outdoor festival at such a big level, but at the same time being able to do a headliner tour in general and see and meet people that enjoy what we do every night was wonderful.
The best gig you have attended
We were able to see Paramore at the end of the summer and in all honesty they put on such an amazing live show, I was blown away and inspired to get back on the road.
Highlights of your year
Moving into a place of my own and not living out of my parents’ house anymore, haha.
Artist/Band to watch for 2015
Plans for the New Year
Tour as much as possible and still find time to be with my loved ones.
A huge thank you to Dads, we hope they tour the UK again soon!!
