Rad Releases ’14- Cathy Pellow Sargent House

December 29, 2014

As the countdown to the end of 2014 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be featuring the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.

In our end of year special we let our favorites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favorite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

sargent_logo_largeThis year during our annual tradition we have been extremely lucky to have our own Sargent House take over where we have seen members of the Sargent House team take to the site to tell us their most loved albums of the year. In our final take over we speak to Cathy Pellow, a very familiar name to Circuit Sweet. Cathy is the record label owner and manager to the plethora of incredible acts on the label. Cathy has very kindly contributed to our feature, and she continues to support what we do, which we can’t thank enough, and the fact she keeps releasing some of the best albums of our time. Cathy talks about her most loved albums, of which shes had chance to hear, and the plans for team SH next year..

Cathy Pellow – Sargent House Band Management & Record Label Owner / Manager/ A&R

I never do these lists in part because I put out records, so of course I think all my albums were the best of the year and secondly because I rarely get to hear or discover other bands that I’m not already working with. I genuinely love my own roster and tend to listen to their music 90% of the time when not listening to older stuff. But, this year we put out only a few albums. I think we were just so exhausted from 2013 having put out 12 albums that year. So here are the albums I liked the most of those that I got to hear ( Keep in mind I don’t like making these lists because I didn’t get to hear every album that came out this year! )

In Alphabetical order

Adebisi Shank – This is the Third Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank

Boris – Noise

Deerhoof – La Isla Bonita

Earth – Primitive and Deadly

Emma Ruth Rundle – Some Heavy Ocean

Helms Alee – Sleepwalking Sailors

Iceage – Plowing Into The Field of Love

Perfume Genius – Too Bright

Pallbearer – Foundations of Burden

Wovenhand – Refractory Obdurate

Wreck and Reference – Want

Swans – To Be Kind

Best of LIVE 2014 was the first time I saw David Eugene Edward’s and Wovenhand play live. Enough said.

I loved all the times I got to see Deafheaven play this year, which was in every size room and festival and no matter what they are always so consistent and incredible live.

Seeing our own SH Tours and the communal spirit they create amongst bands and fans alike is so inspiring to me. Thanks to TTNG, Mylets and Emma Ruth Rundle for being our Fall club tour line up this year. I can’t wait to make these kind of tours an ongoing thing every year in Europe and N. America. Our SH Label show in Dublin then onto having 6 of our bands all playing the weekend at ArcTangent Festival in Bristol was a super huge highlight for me. Thanks to Russian Circles, And So I Watch You From Afar, Tera Melos, Mylets, Emma Ruth Rundle, TTNG and No Spill Blood for all being there to be part of it.

New albums coming in 2015 from artists I’m excited to hear from : All Tvvins, And So I Watch You From Afar, Big Walnuts Yonder, Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven , Drab Majesty, Helms Alee, Indian Handcrafts, Marriages, Mutoid Man, Mylets, No Spill Blood, Rory Friers, Three Trapped Tigers, TTNG.

Again thank you Cathy, we need All Tvvins as soon as possible and we are very much looking forward to the rest of the albums due next year, Wishing the label continuing success.
