Modern Stockholm seems to be the perfect breeding ground for bands and artists in the line of northern melancholy. So let us introduce you to singer-songwriter Jennie Abrahamson whose critics have been calling her a younger, more accessible Kate Bush. After a few years finding her musical ground in different bands and touring as a musician with other artists, Jennie decided to go solo.

Since the last album The Sound of Your Beating Heart she has frequently been touring Europe, both with her own music and as part of Ane Brun’s band. She has also both supported and sung alongside her big childhood idol Peter Gabriel through four arena tours across North America and Europe. Abrahamson has also been nominated as the Swedish Pop Artist Of The Year at the Gaffa Awards.

The pop songstress now arrives with her first official UK single release, The War. Jennie has kept a slight tint of that northern moodiness throughout her richly coloured and playful song. Fading OH’s filter on the beginning of the track before tribal-esque beats and drums drive the song alongside Abrahamson’s soft yet expressive vocals. The commanding melody gives the impression of great importance, without the slightest hint of foreboding.

Alongside The War, Abrahamson will be releasing a B-side just in time for Christmas called Snowstorm. Tranquil percussions reverb throughout, whilst Abrahamson’s voice soothes and coos. The general arrangements are beautifully put together and an absolute joy to hear. It’s an inspired, rugged, smart, emotive, coolly modern piece of indie pop. Jennie Abrahamson is the perfect amalgamation of Robyn, Lykke Li and St Vincent, whilst maintaining her own quirky yet straightforward sound.

The War will be available for download on the 19th January 2015 followed by her forthcoming Gemini Gemini album, hitting the UK early 2015.
