10 year anniversary playlist (LISTEN)
UK tour with The Gaslight Anthem Nov 17-23

A year on from their NME, Uncut and Q lauded album ‘Negativity’ and on the cusp of their ten year anniversary as a band, Deer Tick are returning to the UK in November where they will be touring with The Gaslight Anthem, including a date at London Alexandra Palace on November 19. And, to celebrate their milestone anniversary, the Rhode Island quintet have planned a six night residency at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC, starting December 26 and ending on New Year’s Eve, where the band will perform five of their favourite band’s records from start to finish and culminate the celebrations on New Year’s Eve with a fan-selected set of 25 Deer Tick songs. The five albums that the band will play over the first five nights of the residency are:

1 NRBQ – ‘Tiddlywinks’
2 Devo – ‘Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!’
3 The Beatles – ‘Meet The Beatles’
4 Lou Reed – ‘Transformer’
5 Elvis Costello – ‘My Aim Is True’

Furthermore, the band have put together a playlist of their songs to cover their ten year existence as Deer Tick. Of the selection process, frontman John Mcauley explains:

“I think these songs do a good job of balancing the songwriting, musicianship, and restlessness of Deer Tick. They also highlight the fact that over the past 10 years, Deer Tick has finally eased into becoming a full-fledged band, with permanent members and everything! In the early days of Deer Tick it was hard for me to keep a steady band of musicians and I’d often play and record by myself (every instrument on “Baltimore Blues” is played by me). I think that frustration and loneliness rubbed off on me a bit on songs like “Houston, TX” and “20 Miles”. Also highlighted here is the introduction of Dennis Ryan and Ian O’Neil’s songs to the band. “Clownin Around” (Ryan) to me was a standout track of the entire Divine Providence session. I don’t think Dennis intended for it to fit into the Deer Tick canon so well, but it really did. Recording a Dennis song for the first time I was like, “hey, maybe we actually do have our own sound”. Same thing with “The Dreams In The Ditch” (O’Neil), which was a big song for us off of Negativity. I picked “The Curtain” simply because it’s a song that I wrote that I just happen to really like.”

Last year’s ‘Negativity’ album, released on Partisan Records, sees the Tick bridging boozy punk, AM gold, bar band blues, country soul, and whatever else catches their fancy into their own profound American rock ‘n’ roll. It was recorded in Portland, Oregon with legendary producer/musician Steve Berlin (The Blasters, Los Lobos, and last year’s McCauley side project, Diamond Rugs), and the album is McCauley’s most personal work thus far as well as Deer Tick’s most undeniable and universal.
