Just a year ago, prog-rapper Signor Benedick The Moor was making music alone in parent’s Sacramento home, hoping anyone would ever want to hear it. 2014 has been an entirely different story. He has already released two albums (both on Deathbomb Arc) and a third is on the way (courtesy of European label Juicy). The Sub Pop rap trio clipping. has taken him under wing, bringing him on tour and recording collaborations that will see the light of day later this autumn. Signor Benedick The Moor is also now a member of rap collective True Neutral Crew alongside Daveed Diggs of clipping. So when The Wire asked him to share songs to go along with a full page spread on his latest full length ‘El Negro’, Signor Benedick The Moor decided to celebrate this exciting year with a brand new one-off track called “A2onality”. Heavy with narrative, the song uses a 12 tone technique to convey a sense of uneasiness to the quasi-scifi tale. While Signor Benedick The Moor’s work has always embraced unique compositional styles for hiphop, “A2onality” is an indicator of just how much further he is pushing his writing for future endeavors.
