The final bank holiday of summer we witnessed some promising talent perform live and leave us simply stunned. Supporting the incredible Tides of Man, we traveled a few hours to see a band that means a lot to Circuit Sweet, Vasudeva. Arriving at the venue in Swansea our anticipation to finally see this band perform live in front of us, was nothing short of intense. Vasudeva consist of Derek Broomhead, Corey Mastrangelo and Grant Mayer, these three and other members on occasion, are the unstoppable force making up this promising outfit. Their first UK/EU tour- we knew we were about to witness something remarkable.
Their very tight, very professional yet extremely enjoyable set comprised of intelligent, layered and uplifting compositions tied with elements of post-rock, ambient multi-instrumental passages and, at it’s core, some serious drum grooves. Playing tracks from their flawless sophomore release ‘Life In Cycles’- an album still being played to death everyday and now available in the store– older tracks from their EP ‘Roots of The Tree’, and the audience was treated to some fresh new orchestrations. Every track played was upbeat and uplifting, each musician showcasing the best of their technical abilities and their workmanship with their chosen instrument. Plenty of heavy riffs cut with complexity and imagination. Skilled tapping like no-other and fierce, abrasive beats.
Vasudeva are without a doubt one of the most creative, capable and consistent instrumental bands to date. We urge everyone to get captivated in a vasu-performance, this band are a must hear and a must see. We are already counting the days until we can catch this trio again.
