Sound like nothing else out there right now” – Hilly Dilly

“Loving the positive vibes and layered vocals.” – Indie Shuffle

“Halfway between a crisp spring melody and a comforting embrace” – Crack In The Road

Based in South London, HUGH bring together a blend of warm samples and synths, in their spoken-sung pop songs of understated drama. A delicate synthesis of references, in textured r&b, deep house and the 80ʼs synth-pop.

The beating heart of this electro-pop outfit is the partnership of friends Andy Highmore and Joshua Idehen. A chance meeting in a London bar found the two discussing their mutual appreciation of Beach Houseʼs reverbs, Grizzly Bearʼs barbershop harmonies and the 90ʼs brilliance of Soul || Soul. With Joshua as prime songwriter and vocals and Andy focused on production and keyboard, the two fused their combined musical knowledge and experience to form HUGH. After recording their first demo ʻI Can Be Your Lightʼ, they recruited friend Martin ʻTinoʼ Kolarides for guitar followed by singer Izzy Brooks lending her enchanting vocals to complete the band.

Drawing from an eclectic mixture of music, this EP documents friendship, loneliness and love in ambient beatscapes and unembellished electronica. ‘The main idea behind HUGH and this EP was to combine my love of slightly left field electronic music with my love of great songs and catchy melodies and hooksʼ explains Andy, ʻthe songs on this EP show the broad range of our musical interests in the band, from the house influences in ‘Charlie’ and ‘I Can’t Figure You Out’ to the acoustic and ambient textures on ‘I Can Be Your Light’.

Early releases saw HUGH gathering momentum with second single ʻLook Back In Laughterʼ receiving over 20,000 views on Soundcloud in ten days. Hyped by various blogs including Indie Shuffle, Pigeons and Planes, This is Fake DIY and The 405, the band have also received praise from Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Ally McCrae (Radio 1) and Amazing Radio.
