Bands announce massive tour of America and you can help.

ImageProxy.mvcExploding In Sound Records is thrilled to announce Famous Cigarettes, a split cassette from Bad History Month and Dust From 1000 Yrs due out on June 10th. The two bands will be heading out on a massive summer tour (dates below) together in support of the release, spanning much of the United States from June to August. Having built a close relationship over the years, the pairing finds the experimental folk and indie rock of both bands complimenting each other as they offer stripped down, peeled back, emotionally heavy songs for anyone that ever wished summer were a bit bleaker.

“Wrapping piano, drums, guitar, and electronics around his voice like a warm, fuzzy blanket, it’s the sort of manipulated “headphone folk” that earns a comparison to the Microphones’ The Glow Pt. 2. It lays out a foundation for Meff’s voice delivering line after heartrending line.” – Stereogum

Bad History Month is the solo project of Jeff Meff, formerly of Boston’s much beloved Fat History Month. Following the departure of FHM’s drummer, Bob Hobby, Meff decided to move forward solo, adapting the name to Bad History Month, as to not confuse anyone… Regardless, BHM marks a growth in Meff’s songwriting, allowing for personal experimentation and studio layering to create a sound that is as lush and contemplative as it is direct and depressing. Meff’s songs get under your skin in a genuine way, with every note radiantly ringing out with a down but not quite out charm that has become Bad History Month’s signature. Self-loathing has rarely been this poetic, and Meff’s timeless songwriting is as jaw dropping in its beauty and emotional weight as its composition and delivery.

Dust From 1000 Yrs have been making music and releasing records in Bloomington, Indiana for over a decade, shifting their line-up throughout the years while experimenting with different sounds. At the center of it all is Bone aka Ben Rector, the mastermind behind Dust’s easy going heartbreak. Having recently released their latest album Moon as a trio just last month through their own So Hard Young Boy imprint, Famous Cigarettes finds Rector performing solo, perfecting his steady and earnest songwriting, combining gentle dirges of distorted riffs, acoustic guitars, doubled vocals, and devastatingly sad songs that resonate long after they’ve finished. There’s an outsider folk quality to Dust From 1000 Yrs latest batch of songs, an unnerving sentiment of loneliness with an underlying sense of hope buried deep beneath that peaks out just when all hope is seemingly lost.

“There’s a vignette in Wayne Wang’s Blue in the Face when a character played by Jim Jarmusch is about to have his “last” cigarette, so he explains to a store owner, played by Harvey Keitel, about the appeal of smoking and how every drag is a reminder of his mortality. “Smoke Em Up,” a bleakly comforting acoustic ballad by Bloomington, Indiana’s Dust From 1000 Yrs, has the opening line I got a pack of smokes today/ something to do while I waste my life away, and it makes me think about that film clip for obvious reasons.” – The Fader

Dust From 1000 Yrs was recorded by Bone (Ben Rector) on March 29-31, 2014 at the Joseph Henderson House in Bloomington Indiana. Bad History Month was recorded by Dan Angel and Jeff Meff and mastered by James Rsykalchick at the Sex Dungeon between June 2013 and March 2014.

Bad History Month and Dust From 1000 Yrs will bring the sunshine that is Famous Cigarettes with them on the road this summer for an epic tour of the states, and the bands are looking for some help making it happen. While much of tour has been confirmed and many others are in the works, the bands are looking to their fans and friends for help in new cities. If you have recommendations for venues, basements, living rooms, BBQs, parties, or anywhere else you think would be great for a show, email the bands at lovingdadmakes@gmail.com and sohardyoungboy@gmail.com.
