NEW SINGLE ‘TIME TO SHINE’
DIGITAL REMIX EP RELEASED ON 9TH JUNE 2014 ON POUR LE MONDE RECORDS
London based Parisian duo The Penelopes (Axel Basquiat and Vincent T.) release their new single ‘Time To Shine‘ on June 9th on Pour Le Monde. Produced by The Penelopes and mixed by Dan Grech-Marguerat (Lana Del Rey, The Vaccines…), the track was written by Axel in a hotel room in Tokyo last Winter using a bass, a cheap keyboard and a drum machine. The original inspiration for Time To Shine was born out of the band’s shared desire to strive for something better and to discover the optimism in the most desperate of circumstances. When brought to the studio, the song was spiced up with some French-electronic and 80’s flavours, becoming an upbeat, anthemic electro tune reminiscent of hedonistic, Flashdance-era Moroder. Boasting remixes from the effervescent Moullinex, Kitsuné’s very own Is Tropical, Electro/Disco darling Ronika and devoutly dark and sexy Night Drive, there’s a little something to suit all of your electronic desires.

Axel and Vincent grew up together in the suburbs of Paris with a mutual love of indie pop and early electronic bands, themselves becoming part of the New Wave of French “avant garde” scene (the duo being sponsored and produced by Vitalic and Blackstrobe).
Since then they’ve moved to London, toured with longtime heroes The Human League, provided lusciously funky remixes for the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Tom Tom Club, striking a fine balance between sumptuous dance-floor beats and street level “art”, whilst also appearing on screen with Charlotte Gainsbourg in an upcoming feature from Asia Argento due to premier at Cannes this year, a film in which they also provided scoring duties.
In other avenues the guys have played live and DJ’d at 1234 Shoreditch Festival, XOYO, Hoxton Bar & Kitchen and Dalston Superstore, while their recent remix of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” (which reached #5 on the Hype Machine chart) has received strong support from the likes of Rob da Bank, Triple J, Tiga, Tensnake, Little Boots, Gigamesh, and Eddy Temple Morris (who also played it on his XFM show).
