We are jazzzzzzed to finally announce that our friends in Seagulls are now part of the Autumn + Colour family. They are a four-piece, mid-tempo, gravelly pop punk band from Atlanta, and we love them. Today we are premiering the first single from the debut EP ‘The Royal We’ that will be available for pre-order on 03.07.2014. So check out the song “Santa’s Little Helper”:

Steve Johnson (vox/bass) explains the story behind Santa’s Little Helper, “On our way to our first Tuscaloosa show, Billy got the dreaded call that his dog (named Santa’s Little Helper) had been hit by a car and died. A couple weeks later I got the call that my grandma had died the day before a show. This song is sort of a post mortem message for them, or anything that gets taken from you before you’re ready to let them go. Yada yada.. get sappy, let everyone know they’re loved and cherish the time you have with them!

This is a really straightforward song by most definitions. 2-4 chord mid-tempo punk with slight variations – it’s kind of our thing. Recording this was incredibly easy, based on how simple the song is. I’m pretty sure Chance drummed it one handed and Billy, Dom, and I probably went through it in one or two takes. This was the last track we recorded in full, and we all really liked how it turned out with harmonies and group vocals included.

Being from the Chicago suburbs and growing up in the same scene as Joe Gac, I opt for him to mix and master anything I can, as he has done awesome work for a number of amazing bands in the Chicago area. Between playing in some great bands and working and recording, Joe is an extremely busy guy. I’m glad when he can spare some of his time to make my mediocre recordings sound as good as possible.”
