Sinead O’Connor, Owen Jones and Mpho Tutu join lineup of Greenbelt 2014
A varied bill of artists, speakers and performers will come together at Boughton House in Northamptonshire for this year’s Greenbelt Festival. Organisers have announced performances and talks from acts including Sinead O’Connor, preacher and speaker Mpho Tutu, columnist Owen Jones, and folk group Stornoway.
With an appropriate theme – “Travelling Light” – this year’s festival marks a return to Greenbelt’s nomadic roots, with its first site move since 1999.
Greenbelt creative director Paul Northup said:
This is the start of a new chapter for Greenbelt. We’re excited to be moving to the beautiful grounds of Boughton House. And we’re excited at the way our lineup is shaping up. But what excites us most is to see our audience – and new audiences – joining us on the journey.
The festival has been running since 1974, and this summer’s event – taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (22 – 25 August 2014) – will be the 41st festival without a break.
Also joining the music lineup are Jahmene Douglas, Lau, Gaggle and Beth Rowley, and the Ideas programme will feature contributions from writers Brian McLaren, Nadia Bolz-Weber and Bidisha.
The box office is now open, with tickets available from www.greenbelt.org.uk. The festival has a longstanding commitment to inclusion and diversity, reflected in its range of ticket discounts for families, groups and young people.
Greenbelt was recently awarded the Silver Award by events industry accessibility agency Attitude is Everything for its work making the festival accessible to all.
