Hotly-tipped Brighton four-piece Lion Bark have released a surreal video for new song ‘Longhorns’, following a rammed-out hometown gig at The Hope in Brighton. ‘Longhorns’ is twinned with the band’s acclaimed debut track, ‘Two Prongs’, ahead of an EP of new material later this year.

The impressive video for ‘Longhorns’ was shot almost entirely in the band’s shared flat, overlooking the sea. Director Ben Pender explains: “Longhorns is a song about coping and coming to terms with absence. This void can quickly lead to you shutting yourself off from the outside world, seeking comfort only in mundane activities, instead of confronting your problems head on. The result is a sequence of nightmarish reactions from a gritty and somewhat surreal reality, which leads Guy to find strength in accepting the reality he faces, and then acting upon it – knowing this perception is temporary.”

Lion Bark have earned early comparisons with the likes of Real Estate and Wild Beasts for their swooning, post-punk take on classic British Pop. Having originally met at music school in Brighton, the band’s four members all decided to drop out before the end of their first year, after realizing they had already formed the band each of them had dreamt of creating when they first started college. They took up a variety of part-time jobs (one member is a postman, the others work in cafes and call-centres) to allow them to finesse their sound.

The results are already beguiling – Lion Bark have pricked up the ears of the BBC Introducing team and a host of blogs in 2013, and will announce further plans for new music shortly.
