imp – Moon Coastal Maine
Release date: 25th November 2013
Format: CD, digital download
Leeds 4-piece imp release their full-length debut album this Autumn on multiple award-winning Philophobia Music (The Spills, Runaround Kids, others). This follows up two incredible, critically acclaimed EPs which picked up attention from the likes of Welsh and award-winning DJ Bethan Elfyn, John Kennedy of XFM and Charlie Ashcroft. On the back of the EPs, live opportunities to support Strange Boys, Ty Segall and Eagulls along with slots at Beacons and Long Division festivals materialised. Recorded and produced both at Greenmount Studios (Mark Eitzel, The Cribs, Jeffrey Lewis) and also by the band not at Greenmount Studios, the record promises (the band do not) to be an amalgamation of high fidelity and lo-fi sound emissions. The band themselves notoriously do not make promises.
imp started as a promising, youthful project between guitarist Howdle and keyboardist Riggs and after several years of not releasing albums they are now releasing an album. ‘We wanted to release an album.’ said keyboarder Riggs, ‘Yeah, we promise to release an album, maybe even this one’ concluded Howdle. The band are very ambitious and have stated that they ‘hope people hear the album, even if they don’t want to, or even if they have previously expressed apathy towards doing so.’ That determination to win over new fans will surely take them a long way. Apparently imp have written over 250 songs but unfortunately only around 6% will be featured on this album.
NME – “like the stranglers aboard a space station”
Soundblab – “imp look like they have a bright future ahead of them”
Louder Than War – “They’re fucking brilliant”
