Les Jupes
New EP Negative Space released September 30th

Listen to ‘Hold Me Down’ now

UK tour dates begin 30th September

Winnipeg’s Les Jupes are a committed bunch. Hardworking, hard-touring, and devoted to this driving and deeply emotive music that has roots in British post-punk and American folk. Their debut album Modern Myths straddled some imaginary line between noise and pop, cascading layers of sound upon peculiar songs with peculiar characters.

Now able to step back and assess what they’ve begun to build, Les Jupes are drawing a new map. Mike’s voice & songwriting is more focused, his gritty baritone having found confidence on European stages. David’s bass alternates between melodic support and mean-spirited chugs. Jordon churns behind the kit. And keyboard melodies – now manned by Adam Fuhr – are decidedly simpler, but built from even more experiments with analog equipment. The result is Negative Space.

These are songs that stick with you. That leave room for discovery and reflection. That hope for more than just a fleeting existence.

Negative Space was recorded with Imaginary Cities’ Rusty Matyas and Weakerthans’ engineer Cam Loeppky in Winnipeg during the spring of 2013. These are the first 4 of over 30 new songs they’ve written since their debut.

Recording is also wrapping up on a new full-length with Montreal’s burgeoning hero Marcus Paquin (The National, Stars, Little Scream, Local Natives). Look for it sometime 2014.

Les Jupes supported Handsome Furs, Sweden’s Baskery and Mother Mother on tours for Modern Myths. They criss-crossed North America twice and Europe three times, played big European festivals, showcased at SXSW, CMW, NXNE, Sled Island, Pop Montreal, Reeperbahn and more.

Negative Space is released 30th September through Head In The Sand.
