A STORM OF LIGHT: New Track Premiere Hosted By Pitchfork
In celebration of its forthcoming studio release next month, Pitchfork hurls forth “Lifeless,” the eighth track off A STORM OF LIGHT’s Nations to Flames.
Describes Pitchfork of the album-defining tune: “The guitars at the start of ‘Lifeless’ hang slow and steady and mean, suggesting the convoluted doom that’s familiar from A STORM OF LIGHT’s previous output. But the drums are fast, seemingly caught in a perpetually tumbling roll. That holds until the riff falls in line with the rhythm and the song rolls ahead, like an especially swift battle tank moving into position. That’s largely the premise of Nations to Flames, which finds the New York trio speeding up its songs without slimming their heft much at all. When “Lifeless” heads for its coda, supporting the band’s full weight with drums that refuse to languish beneath it, the strategy feels loaded and wonderful.

Additionally, you can still experience “Fall,” currently playing at Revolver as well as “Disintegrate” courtesy of The Quietus. Both tracks are currently available for free download with preorders courtesy of the band’s official BandCamp page.
Featuring Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil and Indian/Nachtmystium’s Will Lindsay on select tracks, A STORM OF LIGHT’s Nations To Flames centers itself around the apex of human failure and bears witness to the fall of all governments, all nations, and all religions. Recorded with Travis Kammeyer (OCOAI, Generation Of Vipers) at Fahrenheit Studios in Johnson City, Tennessee, mixed with Matt Bayles (Isis, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Botch, Mastodon) at Red Room Recording in Seattle, Washington and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails) at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon, Nations To Flames boasts some of the band’s heaviest, most confrontational and wholly thought-provoking material to date.

Nations To Flames will be released in the UK/EU via Southern Lord Recordings on September 30, 2013.
