Shonen Knife’s New Album “Pop Tune” out June 5th On Good Charamel Records
Pop Tune North American Tour Kicks off July 19 on Philadelphia

Osaka Japan’s legendary pop punk princesses Shonen Knife release their 18th studio “Pop Tune” album June 5th on Good Charamel Records in North America. Marking their 30th Anniversary in 2012 the band will follow up this release with their “Pop Tune” Tour of North American in July and August of 2012.

Check out the music video for the title track here:

From MTV Buzzworthy:

“The all-female Japanese trio is 30 years into their careers and is on a 30-date U.S. tour. Their new album traverses their sweet power-pop-punk trademark sound that inspired J-pop/J-rock (and K-pop) makers who followed. “Pop Tune” is classic Shonen Knife with its sunny words of wisdom: “Since you’re already here, think of happy things!”

From Boston Bastard Brigade:

“For over thirty years Shonen Knife have been spreading their pop punk rock styles across the globe, influencing the likes of Kurt Cobain, Sonic Youth, and Redd Kross to name a few. After coming off a well-received Ramones cover album Naoko and company returned to the studio to record their eighteenth studio album Pop Tune. The good times have returned… When Shonen Knife drops a new album, you know a party is bound to happen in your stereo. Pop Tune is no exception **** ½ (out of five)”

From Popdust:

“Japanese alt-pop-punk group Shonen Knife’s been around approximately forever–well, 30 years, which is another way of saying “since the ’80s”. Their music’s somehow still as exuberant as ever, and this is no exception, a raucous pop track about how awesome it feels to listen to raucous pop tracks. It’s also got a key change, and those can feel awesome too.”
