Rad Releases ’11- LoOmis

December 22, 2011

As the countdown to the end of the year approaches we take a personal look back on our familiar names, features and musicians’ top releases of the past 12 months.

This year has stood out for incredible releases and even more so for uncovering exceptional talent; most of which discovered, promoted and featured right on this site.
Continuing our Rad Releases feature; An artist regularly featured throughout our time here- New Orleans native Patrick Bailey aka LoOmis.
This year has proved a productive one for the talented artist. Having released 3 releases this year alone!  LoOmis has been a regular on the site throughout the year following the featured full length ‘A Solitary Attraction’, EP ‘A Dog & His Boy’ newest EP release ‘Vellovet’, mutliple videos and the recent announcement of forthcoming  EP ‘Melt Away’ due in January 2012.
An artist we fully support in all endevours, we had the pleasure with speaking to Patrick finding out his chosen releases.
Top albums
Mogwai – Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
Mogwai is one of my favorite bands and they put out one of my favorite Mogwai albums this year. I can’t get enough of it and San Pedro is one of the best instrumental songs in my opinion.
Fair Ohs – Everything Is Dancing

I came across this album when it came out and couldn’t put it down. Every song is great and for me, probably, it’s the most pleasing album to listen to all the way through that came out this year.
Toro Y Moi – Underneath The Pine
One of the 2011 albums I most frequently visited. I love everything about it.
A Living Soundtrack – How To Grow A City
An album not many people know that should know. My favourite band from New Orleans long awaited full length. They were working on this for a long time. It’s pure genius and a live electronic masterpiece. It can be listened to HERE
-Russian Circles – Empros
Russian Circles are one of my top favourite bands and they did not let me down on their 2011 release. 309 is one of my favourite openings to an album.
My favourite gig I played this year was probably my previous band Smiley With A Knife‘s farewell show this past May @ One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans. It was bittersweet, but I couldn’t ask for a more solid gig. Especially playing alongside my 2 favourite local bands The BLACKbELT Band and A Living Soundtrack one last time was amazing.
My favourite show I attended this year was on a band field trip to see LITE open for Mike Watt on March 20, 2011 @ One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans. It was truly amazing to be able to catch them. I love their music and didn’t know if was ever going to be able to see them since they are based out of Japan. They played a hell of a set and my friend got super drunk and got in trouble for getting too wild while rocking out to their music. I also really enjoyed catching Outside Lands festival in San Francisco this year.
My plans for 2012– I’m currently back in New Orleans. I just started a new band with some of my good friends and people I respect musically. I’m also in the very early stages of working on a new LoOmis full length for 2012. It will also be really nice to put together a LoOmis live band in 2012. That’s definitely in the works.
Thank You so much Patrick! We cannot wait for the new release. It’s been a pleasure supporting all your releases to date. We can only wish you our support and good luck for next year.
