Enemies- Coco et Moi / Robert Reid

April 7, 2011
A huge supporter of Record Store Day which is rapidly approaching (April 16th).
Another loved and regularly featured band on here have a fantastic 7″ coming out to celebrate the day.
Enemies were born from a burgeoning, artist led, Kilcoole DIY scene that has spawned and nurtured talents like Heathers, Adebisi Shank, Kidd Blunt and new-media mogul Dylan Haskins.
They released their debut EP Alpha Waves on Wexford based independent label Popular Records and toured nationwide extensively. The EP was picked up in Japan by independent label Macchu Piccu and the band went to Japan to support the release of this record, playing four sold out shows in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya.
A limited edition single followed. The CD was released on internationally renowned Japanese independent label, Stiff Slack Records, with the run selling out within a week of its release. Richter Collective also picked up the single and released it as a free digital download in Europe.
The EP & single found it’s way through Europe at a grass routes level and their strong work ethic and do-it-yourself attitude led to extensive touring of Ireland and the UK, playing and touring with bands such as ASIWYFA, Adebisi Shank, Heathers, Blakfish and Danish band Marvins Revolt. Their EP was described by the Irish Times as “Smashing Post Rock”.
The band has spent the last year in their studio in Wicklow writing their debut album.
We’ve Been Talking was Recorded at the Hive Studios in Wicklow and mastered by TJ Lipple in Washington DC. TJ has become quite a friend to the Richter Collective and having previous credits on records by MGMT, Aloha and Medications he was an obvious choice to finish the album.
We’ve Been Talking will be released by Richter Collective in Ireland (home to The Redneck Manifesto, BATS, Not Squares, and Jogging among others), and Stiff Slack in Japan. In terms of Enemies’ songwriting, there has been a serious shift away from previous material. State Magazine previously described Enemies Alpha Waves as “plenty of high fret playing with soothing, emotive melodies.”
Where the old songs were slow, building pieces the new material has been described by guitarist Lewis Jackson as “Intricate, upbeat, almost tropical rock.” Shorter, snappier intricate songs have replaced the building mood pieces of the previous EP & Single
The band have just started streaming the tracks from their 7″ RSD release, which you can listen to below.
