Emily Magpie shares most personal release to date with new EP Be Your Own Light!

“… a glittering, spacious soundscape – mystical, but never twee.”
– the line of best fit

“swooping, creepy swirls of  electronics…”
– diy

Following last year’s The Witching Hour, Bristol based artist and multi-instrumentalist Emily Spetch – aka Emily Magpie – returns to grace our ears with a new spellbinding EP. Be Your Own Light is out now.

Having previously refused to write many love songs, on Be Your Own Light, Emily opens up about heartbreak, creating the most personal of her releases so far. Flowing with a soaring emotion-strewn power, lead single Last Train oozes twinkling finger-picked ukulele melodies alongside Emily’s heart-wrenching celestial vocals and gritty, pulsating beats.

Throughout the EP, Emily’s talent continues to shine through as we’re introduced to a more refined production and mature sound than previous releases. Fusing together elements of folk, electronica and pop, there’s not a dull moment to be found. From the captivating ethereal splendour of ‘Stranger’, to the glitchy electro hooks on empowering anthem and title track ‘Be Your Own Light’, and the infectious romanticism of sparkling EP closer ‘Things I’d Do’, each track is brought together by Emily’s rich, luscious vocals and delicate emotion; the end result being a poignant, and intimate, collection that’ll leave you utterly spellbound.

Completely self-produced at her parents’ house in Cornwall, Be Your Own Light showcases Emily’s DIY approach and ability to develop and hone her sound in a unique and innovative way. Now, with previous acclaim from MahoganyThe Line Of Best Fit and DIY Magazine, as well as wowing crowds at Green Man FestivalRonnie Scotts and supporting the likes of Let’s Eat Grandma and This Is The Kit, Emily hopes to continue to enchant listeners with the majestic, heartfelt beauty of Be Your Own Light.
