LONDON SHOW ANNOUNCED AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL ON NOVEMBER 21st 2018

LONDON ROUNDHOUSE SHOW ON 24th MAY 2018 IS NOW SOLD OUT

Unknown Mortal Orchestra releases the roomy-disco medication-meditation, “Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays“. The third track to be shared from his forthcoming album, Sex & Food, released on 6th April 2018 via Jagjaguwar, is perhaps his most straightforward dance song yet.The track was leaked early to fans who pre-ordered Sex & Food via a mysterious package that arrived last Thursday. It contained a pamphlet simply titled “Age of Paranoia.” The pamphlet included comics and lyrics by Ruban, as well as a link to everyoneactscrazynowadays.com, where the track appeared last Friday morning.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the mastermind of the New Zealand-born, Portland, Oregon-based musician Ruban Nielson, today also announces a live show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 21st November 2018. Tickets are on pre-sale tomorrow and on general sale on Thursday at 9am here. The London show at The Roundhouse on 24th May 2018 is now sold out, two months upfront of the date. The band will also play live in Bristol, Manchester and Leeds in May, and have multiple European shows as well as an extensive North American run. Full live dates are listed below with UK shows in bold.

The follow-up to Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s critically acclaimed record Multi-Love, Sex & Food sees Nielson tap into both familiar and unexpected territory. The delightfully shape-shifting album filters real-deal serious themes such as “What are we consuming? How is it affecting us, and why does everything feel so bad and weird sometimes?” through a vibrant sonic lens that spans battered drum-machine funk, doomy and thrashing rock and pink-hued psychedelic disco. It’s not a dark record, per se. Even the album’s title, Sex & Food, focuses on two of the most undeniably pleasurable experiences in life; positivity despite the strangeness of our times.

The album was recorded in a variety of locales from Seoul and Hanoi to Reykjavik, Mexico City and Auckland, not to mention Nielson’s home studio in Portland. It is a practical musical travelogue, traversing the world as well as a wide spectrum of human experience. Nielson grapples with new, sometimes dismal realities, but succeeds in bringing the epiphanies to light.
