BRENDAN BENSON RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE

‘HALF A BOY (AND HALF A MAN)’

OUT  NOW
VIA READYMADE RECORDS / ABSOLUTE

September 15th saw Brendan Benson release his latest solo single, Half A Boy (And Half A Man)’, taken from his yet-to-be-titled upcoming album – released digitally via Readymade Records and Absolute Label Services (UK).

Half A Boy (And Half A Man)’ is Brendan at his best; blending his distinctive vocals with rapturous drums and electric guitar riffs that lend themselves particularly well on the track’s explosive chorus. It’s now been four years since the release of his sixth studio release, ‘You Were Right’, and the Nashville-based rocker is glad to be back in the studio for himself.

“After writing and producing other people’s music for some time now, it’s really gratifying to be doing my own thing”, he says. “I feel like a kid again. Like half a boy and half a man.”

Brendan Benson is a Michigan-born songwriter who resides on the rock end of the power pop scale. He debuted in 1996 with ‘One Mississippi’ at the age of 25, and despite the album initially struggling, its 2003 re-release saw the record receive widespread critical acclaim and is often cited by musicians as an influence. Since then, he’s gone on to release six solo albums.

In 2005, he joined Jack White in forming the Raconteurs. The group released the albums Broken Boy Soldiers (2006) and Consolers of the Lonely(2008), and scored a number one single with “Steady as She Goes,” on the modern rock charts. He also served as a producer on the albums which went on to international accolades, among which are:Broken Boy Soldiers – Certified Gold, 2006 Mojo Magazine Album of the Year, 2007 Brit Award International Break-Through Artist Nominee, 2007 Grammy Rock Performance Nominee; Consolers of the Lonely – Certified Gold, 2009 CMA Musical Event Nominee (“Old Enough”), 2009 Grammy Best Rock Album Nominee.

Following the birth of his first child, Brendan moved away from his own recording to focus on producing music for Robyn Hitchcock, Leigh Nash, Young The Giant, Eric Burdon and others, as well as writing with Jake Bugg, Ashley Monroe, Nick Lowe, The Kooks and more. The Raconteurs “Many Shades of Black” was recorded by Adele.

Half A Boy (And Half A Man)’ is out now!
