Tunic Share “Boss” with GoldFlakePaint

Boss 7″ Out Independently on July 21st

Playing Sled Island Festival This Week + Expand North American Tour Dates

Tunic, one of Canada’s best (and noisiest) new punk bands will self-release their latest EP, Boss, on July 21st, a corrosive and volatile record that takes the best moments of Metz and The Jesus Lizard and works them into their own artistic brilliance. Loud, aggressive, and often punishing, Winnipeg’s Tunic thrive on chaos, feedback, and manic bursts of slurred shouting. Lead single “Eye Contact” was your introduction, and “Boss” only ups the insanity. Visualized with another slow motion video of monotonous simplicity, the image of a man washing his hair is both oddly mesmerizing, balancing the idea of cleanliness with the song’s filthy noise punk. “Boss” is deliberately primal, a sludgy blend of abrasive shouts, caterwauling guitars, and massive rhythms pummel with a hypnotic fury.

Speaking about the single, GoldFlakePaint shared:

“Boss” is a powerful unravelling, the snarling feedback of the track’s intro fading in to David Schellenberg’s vociferous lead vocal: “Don’t you wanna be the boss? Don’t you wanna be in control?” he screams, in such a way that even typing it out in lowercase seems unreasonable.

Like the weather surging forward once more, just when you thought you might have made it through the storm, the track ramps up another gear for the final minute, a scatter-gun of drums acting as the song’s thrilling adieu, the band’s three solid elements tumbling in to each other in the most unruly and captivating of ways; a tour-de-force of primal energy that grabs the day by the scruff of the neck and threatens to never let go.”

“a propulsive rhythmic bedrock that draws you in and allows you to lose yourself in the churning black sea of guitar squalls and noise.” – Impose Magazine

“Everything about “Eye Contact” is hefty, from the dark rhythm of the drums, grungy vocals and heavy guitar. Tunic feels like a mix of the bands Helmet, At The Drive-In and Wool, yet has its own angry assault on punk.” – Riff Magazine
