MEILYR JONES

Shares new single, “Watchers”

SXSW and UK Tour Dates
Including London’s Islington Assembly Hall on 8th March

Debut album, 2013 out now via Moshi Moshi

Following rave reviews for his solo debut album 2013, released last March via Moshi Moshi, Meilyr Jones has toured the land rapidly building a devoted fan base, winning the 2016 Welsh Music Prize and culminating in a recent performance at London’s Tate Britain. Currently on tour in the UK, today he shares new single, “Watchers“, a 6 minute orchestral piece, telling the tale of a man that loses his love to the sea and wanders the coast and the cliffs endlessly with the hope of seeing her once more.

Meilyr says of the song, “I wanted to become this man, who keeps looking at the sea in the half-light hoping to see the love he has lost return. He looks for too long, in the night, and loses his sight forever… He goes over and over the past hoping to see something different in it, and in doing so moves further away from everything.

“I imagined the orchestra as the sea, still then turbulent with the birds high above as the woodwinds, violins, recorders and whistles, swooping down, the man in the center.”

The song ends with the line, “Watchers, watch out”; a caution for others to escape the fate that he will not. The single was recorded in a day, live in the studio in South London. The orchestra is a group of 30 of Meilyr’s friends, a mix of Baroque and classical players, and also members of bands. The orchestral arrangement is by Joseph Davies and the song was produced by Iwan Morgan and Meilyr. The accompanying visuals imitate the fading sight of the song’s narrator, watch below…
