Circuit Sweet Interview, Feature, Reviews

Rad Releases ’16- Little Cavalier

December 22, 2016

It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2016 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. In what has been a crazy year of highs and lows it’s the releases that have pulled a lot of people through the year. Now in it’s 6th year, Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists/musicians/labels and promoters of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.

Our annual end of year tradition is where we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

Our next take over comes from Rich the founder of Little Cavalier– we love the mentality of LC the Birmingham based live music promotion agency. Having hosted some incredible shows throughout 2016, Little Cavalier are hard at work creating and curating some unmissable live nights and line ups- and they definitely deserve your support. We hand over to Rich to find out more about his year in music.

Releases-

1. Tigercub – Abstract Figures In The Dark (Alcopop Records)

Absolutely perfect debut album full of so many genres and enormous riffs

2. Black Peaks – Statues (Sony)

Captivating from start to finish, will go on to do huge things in 2017

3. HECK – Instructions (NPAG INDUSTRIES)

Just for the final track alone, 16 minute epic that most bands wish they could have written

4. Falls – Cream EP (Naughty Strawberry)

It’s just all the party, all the time. Favourite band of 2016 by a long way

5. God Damn – Everything Ever (One Little Indian)

God Damn never fail to supply the riff, and this album is full of them. Violence being a highlight

Highlight of the year was, without a shadow of a doubt, ArcTanGent Festival. Definite Mates-Fest this year! Every band brought their A-Game and it was great to see bands such as A Werewolf! getting the crowd they deserve and seeing Cleft play their last ever show was tear inducing. Crowd surfing during FALLS was my highlight, high fiving Andy from Birthday Cake For Breakfast whilst held aloft to see a packed tent was a great feeling. More next year please!

Best gig of the year, personally, has to be the mammoth line up that we (Little Cavalier) managed to piece together with Cleft, &U&I, Classically Handsome Brutes, Bearfoot Beware, Arbor Lights and Doppelganger. To have Dan and John from Cleft give us the opportunity to host them on their farewell tour was an absolute privilege and as a collective we are super sad to see them go! &U&I will always blow me away with how humble they are and how they approach their music and Tom, Rich, and Wiz always put on the best performance you could ask for. Shout out to Ben Fitzharris, partner in crime, all round terrible person.

Bands to watch for 2017

1. Tigercub - After their debut album blew me away (and still does after about 1000 plays), they have to go right up there with the best bands in the country right now.

2. Allusondrugs – These lads have been through it all in 2016 and are one of the most hard working bands in the UK, probably the world. In 2017 they should be selling out huge venues, and deservingly so!

3. Peaks – Everything that Ben writes is gold. Incredible voice and imaginative songwriting combined with being one of the nicest guys in the world is a recipe for success

Plans for 2017

Little Cavalier plans to keep putting on shows as we have always done and try an outdo ourselves every time. We want to spread the love we have for music and musicians with even more people and keep that going for as long as we can. On behalf of Little Cavalier I’d like to thank everyone who has attended, played or worked at a show, everyone who has supported us and continues to support us and all the bands in the future who we will work with. Have a good 2017 everyone!! LC x

A huge thank you LC- looking forward to what you plan next year!
