Announce headline London show at The Garage, December 8th

Debut album Space due October 14 via PIAS

Belgian dream pop five-piece Newmoon have shared ‘Helium’, the powerful opening track from their forthcoming debut album, SPACE (due October 14th via PIAS). The band has also announced European tour dates which will include a UK headline show at London’s The Garage on December 8th.

As intricate melodies melt into shimmering reverbs, frontman Bert Cannaerts reveals ‘Helium’s beautiful soundscapes were some of the most difficult to construct.

“Helium is all about being trapped in a spiral of negativity and being unable to escape it. The feeling that, even though it might be obvious that things are not good for you as a person, it feels so much more comfortable existing in that safety net, rather than going out on a limb to find something better. It was one of the most difficult songs to write for the album. We spent a long time working on the music, and the lyrics are some of the most personal on the record. Writing so openly was something that took me a while to get used to.”

Taking their name from an Elliot Smith album and based in Antwerp and Ghent, Newmoon formed in late 2013 and released their debut EP on Touché Amoré’s label Secret Voice/Deathwish Inc. The band members previously played in the much-loved hardcore punk band Midnight Souls, now widely recognised as one of the finest in the country. And though the two projects may superficially appear polar opposites, hardcore is nothing if not a genre built purely on dynamics, something this quintet have a masterful grasp of.

Separating this band though will take some serious thought, as they come built with a strong DIY punk ethic and have been friends since their mid-teens. All band members have matching tattoos, cite the likes The Jesus & Mary Chain, Slowdive, The Ramones, Oasis and Sunn o))) as influences and to them, everything is new, and this is the start of it.

Having toured with bands all over Europe, such as Touché Amoré, Basement, Nothing and Cloakroom, to name a few, Newmoon release SPACE this October 14 via PIAS.
