New York-based power pop/rock band Crying announced today that they will release their debut LP Beyond the Fleeting Gales on October 14, 2016 via Run For Cover Records. Stereogum premiered the lead singleWool in the Wash” off the new record today, saying the track “starts with a gentle sway that builds to a twinkling and playful finish”. Crying will set out on a US tour this fall on both headlining dates and in support of Joyce Manor and Hotelier (all tour dates below).

Crying’s members met through the music scene at their alma mater, SUNY Purchase. Comprised of Ryan on guitar and synthesizer programming, Elaiza on vocals, and Nick on drums, the trio writes music that bridges the gap between decades and genres alike, honing in on the best parts of electronic and rock music. Their debut full-length, Beyond the Fleeting Gales, out October 14, 2016 via Run For Cover Records, sees Crying turning in their Gameboys at the corner thrift store, opting for more sophisticated software synths on the new record. The result most closely resembles “80s era Rush, when they embraced more pop,” according to the band.

Pulling inspiration from the likes of Third Eye Blind, Airplay, Work of Art, Carly Rae Jepsen, and the Motown greats, Crying has created a set of songs on Beyond the Fleeting Gales that fire on all cylinders. While the band says they would describe their new record as “probably not cool” to someone who isn’t familiar with their work, Crying’s boundary-pushing new songs viciously and defiantly beg to differ. Each track feels in search of adventures and the mysterious doors they hide behind, whether that be in the form of dance beats complemented by ripping slap bass lines or big rock ballads with choruses undeniably influenced by anime and video games.
