PAWS have released their latest single, ‘Impermanent‘ from the upcoming No Grace, out this Friday (17th June). The song features background vocals from producer Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) and as the band’s Phil Taylor notes, the song deals with the sometimes fleeting impact of online hype. “Bands margin their progress and success too much by the hand of what’s happening online. On a broader note, there’s reference to people scrolling through their lives and taking in the world around them through a rose-filtered camera rather than the perfectly clear one that they have in their skull. Their self esteem at the mercy of short-lived moments of instant gratification and praise. It’s easy enough to feel a little lost.” he muses.

Regarding recording with Hoppus, a longtime hero, Taylor says, “This was actually one of the last songs fully written for No Grace, even though I wrote the guitar parts and melody long before any of the other songs on the record. I was working on the lyrics right up to the last day of recording, constantly making last minute changes. Really wanted to make sure I knew where I stood with them. We were so excited that Mark Hoppus wanted to sing some backing vocals and harmonies on the chorus. It’s a total honor for me to have Mark sing a song I’d written and have our voices side by side on a record for a moment.” Listen below…

After discovering a mutual appreciation between themselves and bassist/producer Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), PAWS enlisted his support to help push their new album to the wildest heights and pack the heftiest punch they could muster. It’s clear the two are a perfect fit. Mark’s guidance is more than just a nod of approval, its a passing of the torch to the next generation of punk. No Grace is representative of a transformative period of time in the band’s life and is the gravel-throated affirmation of that ‘do it or die’ attitude that informs any great work of passion. But more than anything, it’s the sound of the pure energy and joy that comes from making something with your whole heart.

“[They] sound like pop-punk’s gleaming neon future” – Stereogum

“Energy that’s been bottled up and shaken, anthemic melodies…It’s everything you need as we segue into summer.” – Noisey

“”No Grace” shows the Scottish trio at its peak, crafting a song that somehow finds a way to make each second catchier than the last.” – AV Club
