Multi-million selling British singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram is sharing new single ‘Glass Love Train’ (out March 18), the first to be lifted from her new album ‘Closer To the People’ out April 8 through earmusic. Tanita has also added a London Kings Place headline on April 14 2016 to her extensive forthcoming European tour, which is on sale now. Listen to ‘Glass Love Train’ here:

Speaking about the track, Tikaram says; “At the end of a long day in the studio I started playing this simple piano repetitive piano riff which the song is built around. Mark Cresswell (who co-write the song with me) recorded it, & we hurriedly titled it ‘Glass Love Train’ as we thought the riff had a hypnotic quality like a train, & was reminiscent of Philip Glass. The lyrics take the idea of someone travelling, reflecting on a love story – with subtle changes & insights mirroring the way the landscape changes when you are on a train.  We recorded the clarinet & flute playing many small different phrases, 28 tracks of the wonderful musician Martin Winning, to create the overall flowing movement, & the double bass line pins it all down.”
Tanita’s distincitve voice and superlative songwriting saw her rise to worldwide acclaim in 1988 when she released debut album ‘Ancient Heart’, which included hits such as ‘Twist In My Sobreity’ and ‘Good Tradition’. With new album ‘Closer To The People’ Tanita stands apart once again with a maverick record that takes influence from her live band who played with Van Morrison and John Martyn, a lifetime of records, as well as contemporary recording ideas that give the music a dynamic sound of their own.
This record is inspired by the blues sound that I’ve come to love playing with my band. Bobby Irwin, Martin Minning and Matt Radford create a unique groove that is rooted in British rhythm and blues, and soul. I wanted to couple that with the playfulness of contemporary production. The album is called ‘Closer To The People’ as a reflection of our time; we are more aware of our closeness to one another – or how distant a more connected world has made us.” (Tanita Tikaram)
