It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2015 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
Continuing our annual end of year tradition we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
Our next take over comes from an act we’ve only just discovered at the tail end of this year. This raucous indie-punk band fuse various elements yet create something they can call their own, with lo-fi attributes, compelling lyrics and addictive emo-esque vocals, gritty bass lines, angular riffs and a fierce tone, Western Daughter aren’t your standard post punk/indie whatever, these guys are the real deal. The band recently released a flawless record and we can’t wait to see what 2016 brings for them. We hand over to the band to find out about their year in music.
Top Releases of 2015
Taylor Robert Hawkins:
Mount Eerie – “Sauna”
Something in my head clicked when I heard this album for the first time. It’s gorgeous. Extremely soft and delicate at times and visceral at other times, and it deftly shifts between the two. Something about the minimalism in the lyrical content appeals to me more than I can properly explain.
Titus Andronicus – “The Most Lamentable Tragedy”
Huge, grandiose, perfectly produced, stuffed with brilliant ideas. I needed this.
Tobias Jesso Jr. – “Goon”
(My actual number 3 spot is mewithoutYou’s Pale Horses, but I know Cam will have that on his list). Classic songwriting and the whole thing has a strong sense of honesty to it. Instant nostalgia.
Cameron Brizzee:
mewithoutYou – “Pale Horses”
Hop Along – “Painted Shut”
the spirit of the beehive – “you are arrived (but you’ve been cheated)”
Zachary Sherwood:
Father John Misty – “I Love You, Honeybear”
Beach House – “Thank Your Lucky Stars”
Sufjan Stevens – “Carrie & Lowell”
Taylor Raymond:
Krill – “A Distant Fist Unclenching”
The Sidekicks – “Runners In The Nerved World”
Marietta – “As It Were”
Jess Hope:
Jess was too busy being responsible / graduating college when we were contacted to do this. Go Jess!

Plans for Western Daughter in 2016:
So far… EP release show in January. Also releasing a music video, and an acoustic session. Plan to finish writing for what we intend to make a proper full-length. Playing a few music festivals (Treefort, Camp Daze, etc…) & doing a small amount of touring. Hopefully we’ll get to record / release that full length as well.
Thank you all! Looking forward to seeing what you achieve next year!
