Theo Bard has revealed his enchanting video for ‘Never Alone’, which premiered atClash.

‘Never Alone’ is the first single to be taken from the You Give EP, due for release on October 9th. Filmed in his native London, the ‘Never Alone’ video sees Theo Bard lead his followers through the magnificent surrounds of Dalston Eastern Curve Gardens – home to his Woodburner events – into the cavernous grandeur of a gothic church, where Theo Bard preaches to the converted as they sway in rapture to his infectious song.

The You Give EP is an uplifting and heartfelt record, exploring friendship, love and deep relationships. Playing with the song format, Theo Bard takes inspiration from dirty blues grooves vibrating on harmonica and guitar, and replaces the classic chorus with a driving, gospel-style chant on ‘Never Alone’. This inventive songwriting blends with pounding drums and darkly atmospheric vocals, which build to a euphoric climax that is both desperately aching and upliftingly joyous.

The title track of the EP pairs the throaty vocals of Theo Bard and an ultra fresh guitar tone, with the delicate grace of backing singer Louisa Jones to charming Belle & Sebastian effect. Add to that a chorus of skyscraping proportions, and in ‘You Give’ Theo has produced a perfect summer song.

With deep and personal lyrics, ‘Evil Eyes’ champions Theo Bard’s eclectic taste, a smorgasbord of reggae, indie and classic Celtic traditionalism, reminiscent of the widely accessible musical exploration of Alt-J. ‘Time To Live’ is a gentle acoustic ballad, showing Theo Bard at his most personal, as he describes, “a cathartic and powerful emotional message to a friend.”
A leading figure in the East London music scene, Theo Bard is the man behind the highly respected, and distinctly underground, Woodburner events – which inspires the final track on the EP. ‘Burning Wood Tonight’ is an ode to Theo Bard’s East London life, a hub for his musical creativity and curation.

Birthed in 2010 at The George, Hackney to an audience of no more than 50, Woodburner has grown into a large heady experience that regularly attracts over 400 revellers a week to the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden. Woodburner has proudly hosted performances from the likes of Johnny Flynn and Nick Mulvey and has been described by Clash as, “majestic” and “decadent”. Drawing from influences across the globe, Theo Bard has honed his unique sound on an extensive touring circuit that has seen him play recent shows across London, Belgium and Germany, alongside performing three sets at Glastonbury Festival and performances at Citadel, Camp Bestival and Wilderness festivals, plus many more across the country this summer.

Theo’s band is made up of prestigious talent: Tansay Omar (Bjork, Boy George) on drums, Harry Deacon from Kid Wave on bass, and Max Baillie (Tinie Tempah) on violin.
