CHELSEA WOLFE STREAMS ABYSS ON NPR FIRST LISTEN; ALBUM OUT NEXT FRIDAY, AUGUST 7TH ON SARGENT HOUSE & EUROPEAN TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
After sharing tracks like “Carrion Flowers,” “Iron Moon,” “After the Fall” and “Grey Days,” Chelsea Wolfe is excited to share her full album, Abyss, with fans a week ahead of its official release. Abyss can now be heard in full via NPR First Listen, who write, “gorgeously devastating . . . heartbreak and darkness are the threads that run through Wolfe’s diverse-yet-distinctive discography. They’re never far behind her. If anything, Abyss chases them, with a tenderness that understands the beauty to be captured therein.”
Her fifth full length album, Abyss explores themes of sleep paralysis, the unconscious and subconscious, failure, distortion, destruction, intimacy, anxiety, longing and much more. On Abyss, Wolfe continued her ongoing collaboration with multi-instrumentalist and co-writer Ben Chisholm and drummer Dylan Fujioka, with Ezra Buchla brought on board to play viola and Mike Sullivan (Russian Circles) enlisted to contribute guitar. The ensemble traveled to Dallas, TX to record with producer John Congleton (Swans, St. Vincent,) with results that tremble with a visceral intensity.
It is also with great pleasure to announce Chelsea Wolfe’s European headline tour that will take place this autumn, with support coming from new Sargent House label signees, A Dead Forest Index. This month long tour across Europe begins October 30th in Cologne, DE before ending with a series of UK dates at the end of November.
Pre-order Abyss on iTunesAmazon and on physical formats through Sargent House.

“With heart-wrung fragility proving every bit as powerful as punishing intensity, Abyss is a darkly compelling tour de force.”
– MOJO [4 STAR REVIEW]
“Her best work yet, by far, which is saying something already…In the end, it’s what stays with you of Abyss that really matters, it’s the images you take from this plunge that define the lasting power of this music…something from Abyss will stay with you, something from it will change you. And that is a feat that not many albums can claim.”
– TERRORIZER [ALBUM OF THE MONTH]

“Wolfe continues to sabotage her pop tendencies with a nose for noise, and is greater for it.” – NME

“Wolfe continues to explore her predilections for A Kiss In The Dreamhouse-era Siouxsie and the gloomiest end of 4AD, arriving at the same nexus of noise, electronics and dark-hearted folks occupied by peers Jenny Hval and EMA. Though Abyss’ quieter moments are plenty chilling, Wolfe’s brand of anguish best succeeds when she’s out to do serious damage. The Swans-like rhythms and feedback-laden guitars turn “Carrion Flowers” and “Color Of Blood” into the album’s most vivid nightmares.”
– UNCUT [8/10 REVIEW]

“Utterly chilling” – HOTPRESS [8/10 REVIEW]

“One of the fall’s most intriguing releases.” – BILLBOARD
“Her most intense and dynamic [album] yet.”  – ROLLING STONE [10 ARTISTS YOU SHOULD KNOW]

“Fantastic forthcoming album . . . Wolfe’s take on industrial pulsates with pleasure through her feminine howl, while her electronics fire like a machine gun.” – FLAVORWIRE

“One of the most visceral and exciting records of the year.”  – REVOLT

“Terrifying and contagious in all the right ways.”  – V MAGAZINE
