Above The North – A Tale They Whisper

Hailing from Lyon, Above the North are a hardcore band with a melodic edge who specialise in anthemic and punchy songs with chant along vocals.

A Tale They Whisper is their latest 4 track EP and kicks off with Rains (which the band have just filmed a video for) and it goes straight with some striding guitarwork which brings to mind At The Drive In circa Relationship Of Command and the powerful vocals of singer Clement lead the song to a storming conclusion.

One In A Million follows and while the guitars give the song a tad more melodic feel, the drums are the backbone of the track, pounding as they go along and interlocking with a pulsing bass.
The band go for an angrier sound on Bright & Honoured which picks things up a bit in terms of speed and the track is over before you know it.
EP closer Hills starts with a slow guitar riff before the driving dynamic kicks in and this is certainly the most catchy and anthemic song here and the chanting vocals are very powerful and beg to be chanted along by fansand the triumphant outro on this song ends A Tale They Whisper on a high note.

Passionate vocals and tight musicianship are the order of the day here and Above The North are reminiscent of angular hardcore legends Refused which is a huge compliment and the band definitely have a bright future ahead of them.
