Zeus‘ new album ‘Classic Zeus’ is out September 1 on So Recordings in the UK and Canadian label Arts & Crafts in North America. The band premiered the new video for first single ‘Miss My Friends’ via Noisey and it shows off the band’s pop sensibility, shining a little light on the making of the Zeus zeppelin.

Recorded at Zeus’ own Ill Eagle Studios in Toronto, the eleven tracks on Classic Zeus find the band expanding its sonic palette beyond fuzzed-out 70’s rock into heartfelt pop as the band maintains its razor-sharp wit and airtight harmonies, always landing on something shining and unforgettable. The band will embark on a country-crossing North American tour with stops in thirteen cities throughout western and central Canada.

Classic Zeus was written after a lengthy tour that concluded at a crossroads, with the band feeling frayed and uncertain about their future. Bowed but not broken, Zeus pushed its craft, embraced a hunger for exploration, and produced a testament to its own resilience.  Its most concise and collaborative album to date, Classic Zeus finds all four members — songwriting trio of guitarists Mike O’Brien and Neil Quin and bassist Carlin Nicholson, along with drummer Rob Drake — freely swapping instrumental and vocal duties.

In 2012, Zeus released Busting Visions, which earned the group raves for its “muscular, Big Star-sized guitar riffs” (NPR) and “’70s-groove-infused” (NY Times) sound. KCRW praised it as an “ode to Southern rock jams and T Rex glam,” while Esquire said it’s “as fun as 21st-century classic rock gets,” and SPIN proclaimed that “Zeus ain’t nothing to eff with.” The band’s debut album, Say Us, topped the CBC radio charts, garnering a Polaris Music Prize nomination, rave reviews and national cover features, leading to dates with Belle & Sebastian, Broken Social Scene, Metric, and others.
