As the countdown to the end of 2013 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be featuring the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
The past 12 months truly has been an incredible year for releases, hard to follow last year in the records produced but this year has uncovered exceptional talent- most of which discovered, promoted and featured right here on this site.
In our end of year special we let our favorites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favorite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
Continuing our Rad Releases comes from close friends of Circuit Sweet and their new effort Orbits. The three piece based in Aberdare consist of Clay Statues members- Dorian Adkins and Dorian Holmes alongside Chris Cartwright. The band have achieved an incredible amount in their first year and having already gained a reputable fanbase and released a 2 releases one in April and another in August. 2013 has been our first year as a band! So there’s been a lot of nervous energy and testing of the waters. It’s been great to have a supportive network of promoters/bands/people around us that offered to put us on and gave us gigs despite not hearing any music, those people are the ones we dedicate the year to. Without them it would’ve been so much harder to get started. It was cool then that people really started diggin’ our first releases (First Four Songs & 2 Songs, available from www.orbits-uk.bandcamp.com) so it’s been a fun year!
Best gig is a tough one!
Achievement-wise the two shows we did in The Moon, Cardiff on 26th August supporting Deap Vally, and on October 30th supporting Grant Hart (ex-Husker Du) were barnstormers, great sound mixed with a receptive audience equated to rocking shows! The show we did for Cwmaman Music Festival 2013 in The Globe, Cwmaman on September 28th goes down as one of the best as well, a packed, tiny pub, us being very loud and a good atmosphere was a personal highlight!
Punter-wise, we’ve seen some great gigs this year by Rocket From The Crypt, The Breeders, Tame Impala and PIXIES, all of which were incredible shows!
The start of 2014 will see us finishing up writing and recording a new release ourselves, releasing it and playing wherever we’re wanted to whoever wants it!
Orbits out
We can’t thank the trio enough for such a great take-over and we look forward to hearing the new releases in the new year.
