1505247_10153598234300133_790353857_nAs the countdown to the end of 2013 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be featuring the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.

The past 12 months truly has been an incredible year for releases, hard to follow last year in the records produced but this year has uncovered exceptional talent- most of which discovered, promoted and featured right here on this site.

In our end of year special we let our favorites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favorite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

Continuing our Rad Releases is quite possibly one of the best promoters in the UK. We welcome Connor of Jealous Lovers Club. Jealous Lovers Club are Promoters of regular nights in Cardiff, Newport & London who bring you a mythical spectrum of music with math rock at one end and indie at the other. To date they’ve put on shows for the likes of Enemies, El Ten Eleven, Gunning For Tamar, Delta Sleep, Rolo Tomassi, Johnny Foreigner, Physics House Band, Native, Dinosaur Pile Up, Talons and Let’s Talk Daggers to name a few. Jealous Lovers Club have had another rewarding year putting on some of the best shows this year- and we were lucky enough to be at Dads and Enemies and we are already planning our adventures to the show’s they’ve planned for next year. We’ve teamed up with Jealous Lovers Club to give some extra love and hype to the incredible work being done by the founder. Bringing talent to an array of great venues and for that we are thankful.

* Top 5 releases of the year and a brief reason why (if a label these could be your own).

This is a hard one as a lot of the time I just listen to the bands that I am booking for Jealous Lovers Club. These are the 5 album’s that made up my 2013. (not sure if they were all released in the last year!)

* The best gig you have played(or put on) this year and why

The best show I was lucky enough to put on in the past year would have to be Tall Ships at Buffalo Bar in Cardiff. The show sold out with 180 crammed into the venue. The support bands were amazing with We’re No Heroes opening and Stagecoach as main support. Sadly that was the 1st and last time I will get to see Stagecoach as they have now split.

The response from the crowd to Tall Ships was amazing, sometimes the crowd in Cardiff can be a little lifeless, but I think even the band were a little thrown when near the end of their set every single person in the crowd was singing back at them.

Notable other shows I did last year would probably be Fight Like Apes at Clwb Ifor Bach, MayKay is an amazing front woman an really knows how to get the crowd going. Also The Physics House Band, some of the best musicians I have been lucky enough to put on.

* The best gig you have attended and why

The best gig I attended is a hard one as a lot of the time when I am at shows I busy flyering!, It would have to be Los Camp at Clwb just a few weeks ago. The band were amazing an every single person was so glad to be there, I have listened to the new album No Blues almost every day since the show.

Again a notable mention would have to go to Waxahatchee for the session that I seen her do at Urban Tap House for the Cardiff Uni TV. I was sadly working during her full set and was lucky enough to be able to catch the session that was mesmerizing.

* 2014 plans

I am very very busy booking up most of 2014 for the Jealous Lovers Club, Already confirmed we have:

Jan 22nd – Neck Deep / Roam / Cardinals – Clwb Ifor Bach – Cardiff

Feb 7th – Tera Melos / Samoans / Tangled Hair – Clwb Ifor Bach – Cardiff

March 28th – Johnny Foreigner / Radstewart – Clwb Ifor Bach – Cardiff

March 30th – Johnny Foreigner / Radstewart – Moles – Bath

We shall be announcing a number of amazing new shows at the start of the new year as well, featuring some of the acts we have had in the past and some great new acts we are looking forward to putting on.

I also have a very busy year coming up with the management side of things with Radstewarts new E.P out in March on Alcopop! Records and 2 UK Tours being finalised. Also Kutosis & Samoans both with albums coming out and plans for touring to be announced very soon.

We can’t thank Connor enough for his take-over, we are looking forward to all these amazing shows planned for next year! This is a promoter to count on.
